Two doctoral students from MSU, Assistant Professors Maite Tapia and Christian Ibsen from the MSU School of Human Resources & Labor Relations, have asked us if they could anonymously survey our members about the strike of 2019. They are doing a thesis to document the lessons learned for future generations. They will be available at the hall during check distribution if you would like to participate.
On behalf of the Local 602 Education Committee Mother Jones, portrayed by Vivian Nesbitt, will be visiting our strike sites soon. Mother Jones worked tirelessly for economic justice. Her opponents called her the “most dangerous woman in America.” She was an Irish-born American schoolteacher and dressmaker who became a prominent organized labor representative, community organizer, and activist. She helped coordinate major strikes and co-founded the Industrial Workers of the World.
