Chartered January 18, 1939, UAW Local 602 is the oldest UAW local union in Lansing!

"Fisher Body" (Lansing Car Assembly Body Plant) was the oldest GM facility in North America still in operation until the last car was built on May 5, 2005. Our members' reputation for building quality cars for the past 60+ years has earned us the opportunity to move to the new Lansing Delta Township Assembly plant in 2006, where we now build the Saturn Outlook, the GMC Acadia and the Buick Enclave.

While many UAW Local 602 members live in the Lansing, Michigan area, many commute from all over central Michigan, driving anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours one way--another reason we take pride in building quality vehicles to keep America safe on the road!

Our members do more than build cars--we coach Little League, teach Sunday School, sit on town councils and donate blood. We car pool, we raise families, we surf the Internet, we build web pages and communities. We vote. We work together and play together. We play in bands. We hunt and fish. We keep each other informed through newsletters, e-mail, websites and Worker to Worker communications.

Our UAW-negotiated wages support the businesses and charities in our communities. Our UAW-negotiated benefits protect our families' health, financial security, and even help locate child care. The GM-UAW Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) helps members and their families increase their job skills through education. Our UAW-negotiated holidays and vacations allow us time to enjoy our families and leisure-time.

Our Retirees never figured out the meaning of the word "retired." They man the phone banks during elections, attend rallys, and lobby the state and federal legislature to help us retain the rights in the workplace they and their predecessors gained for us.

The UAW got its start in Lansing here at UAW Local 602. We are very proud of our heritage, and of the pioneering spirit of those who went before. As we look to an uncertain, ever-changing future in a global economy, we draw faith and courage from their example!
