Strike information update #12 - SAFETY and Insurance sign up reminder
Updated On: Sep 23, 2019
Brothers and sisters, an important reminder for you all. After completing her picket assignment, Meagan Ballard, a member of UAW Local 2209, Ft. Wayne, was involved in a fatal accident. Tonight at 9pm, a candlelight vigil will be held in Ft Wayne in her remembrance. This is an extremely stressful time without knowing for sure how long we will be out. We need to look at this as a marathon, not a sprint. It’s great that we have so many people volunteering for extra shifts, but you need to make sure to get rest and spend time with your family. You’re only asked to be here for 4 hours a week. That should be easy after all the six 9-10 hour days we’ve been putting in. The strike committee has done a great job of making sure all picket lines are covered with adequate manpower, we just need to make sure we show up at our designated times. Although it may have seemed to be a little chaotic, now that everyone has their assignments, things will run smoother. Use the time to spend with family – after we go back you won’t have that chance. Make sure to take care of your selves physically and emotionally. Little sleep can lead to short tempers and impaired driving, among a number of other health issues.
Reminder to sign up for insurance Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Tuesday will probably be the most chaotic. You can go any of the 3 days between 8am-5pm
