1. Why isn't the Union doing more than it is?
Lab or relations is a complicated affair. All problems
need study, meetings must be arranged, differences of opinion
must be aired & ironed-out. All this takes time. A grievance
or contract
negotiated hurriedly can cause great harm.
2. Can't we do as well without the union?
History proves that unions accomplish
"miracles" to improve the lot of workers, companies
and the country. Unions promote security, give workers opportunities
for advancement, assure humane treatment & human dignity,
and have settled thousands of labor-management disputes.
Unions make valuable contributions to higher standards of
living.
Union members are typical citizens who unite not only for
their own wefare, but the for well-being of all.
3. Why join a Union?
Unorganized workers have little or no voice in the face of
management. The collective voice of
unionized workers is difficult, if not impossible, to ignore.
4. What is "job security?"
Job security is protection against discharge without sufficient
cause.
5. What is "collective bargaining?"
Acting as a cohesive union, workers make their voices heard
in laying down the rules of the workplace.
6. What is the collective
bargaining agreement?
A book of rules which constitute a contract which must be
observed by both parties to the contract.
7. What is the real purpose of a union?
To extend democracy.
8. Would unions fare better under Communism?
The first thing Communist governments do is smash unions forever.
9. What do workers desire most?
Security.
10. What is the union's greatest weakness?
Indifference.
